Vera L. Quijano began taking dance classes when she was nine years old. With strong encouragement from her parents, she participated in tap, ballet, jazz, acrobatic, and hula dance lessons on a weekly basis. In 1986, she became certified by test to teach dance by Dance Masters of America, Inc, an international organization of dance educators.
Her interest in Dr. Deepak Chopra, MD began in 1989 while studying Cell and Molecular Biology as part of her undergraduate studies at San Francisco State University. Shortly after graduation, she became interested in salsa dancing as a hobby and soon after began teaching at local colleges and community centers to adults and children throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Ms. Quijano soon correlated the principles of Dr. Chopra's mind body medicine approach with the healing powers of salsa dance and decided to pursue The Teacher's Path through the Chopra Center.
Ms. Quijano successfully completed the Chopra Center training, and proudly introduces herself as a certified Creating Health Educator. She later achieved the title of certified Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga instructor. This Chopra Center program is a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School. The Yoga Alliance registers yoga schools whose teacher training programs address minimum standards, and assures that graduates are well qualified to teach the practicing public.
Ms. Quijano also holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Notre Dame de Namur University in California. Vera's teaching style is based on her unique combination of formal education and Chopra Center training, in conjunction with her in-depth experience working with the general public as past community college Financial Aid Director, Scholarship Coordinator, and Student Activities Coordinator.
Ms. Quijano is an experienced instructor who has taught dance and science to thousands of satisfied students in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1984.
